Heritage Week 2013 will be celebrated at Aughnanure Castle with a weekend of free activities and events. It kicks off on Friday, August 16th with an evening batwatch with Carol Reynolds - Education Officer at Connemara National Park. She will lead the batwalk from the castle carpark at 8.30pm to the castle grounds, identifying and tracking the bats of the castle and returning to the carpark at approximately 10pm.
The main event runs on Saturday, August 17th and will run all afternoon from 1.30pm. This event, run by professional archaeologists from Irish Archaeological Research will feature a pop-up museum displaying various archaeological artefacts, a mini archaeological dig and an archery workshop.
Heritage Weekend finishes up on Sunday, August 18th with a Bug Hunt and a Nature Crafts Workshop from 3 - 5pm. Caroly Reynolds will again lead the hunt where she will show children how to catch and identify the various insects around the castle.
Admission to all of the above events is FREE and all are welcome.
