Important Notice in relation to Kilmainham Gaol
Please note that due to major building works being undertaken at Kilmainham Gaol during the period from 29 September 2014 to the end of December 2015, certain areas of the Gaol, principally the East Wing and the Exhibition/Museum area will not be accessible from time to time. Unfortunately, the Gaol will be unable to accommodate group/school bookings during the period of the building works. Reduced admission fees will be applicable in respect of the re-development period and updates will be posted, where required. We would like to ask all visitors to bear with us during the re-development works and we apologise for any inconvenience caused .
Kilmainham Gaol is one of the largest unoccupied gaols in Europe, covering some of the most heroic and tragic events in Ireland's emergence as a modern nation from 1780s to the 1920s. Attractions include a major exhibition detailing the political and penal history of the prison and its restoration. The tour of the prison includes an audio-visual show. Tours may be arranged for visitors with special needs by prior arrangement.
